Lifestyle research - exercise, diet, sleep, substances - some recent publications (December)

I read a fair amount of research and thought some people might be interested in recent studies that I've found helpful.  I plan to give details in separate blog posts on Lifestyle, Relationships, Ageing, Positive Psychology, Meditation & Compassion, and Psychedelics.  Here are some Lifestyle posts mostly published in the last few weeks.  I found it intriguing that in addition to expected benefits for depression & anxiety (see Singh et al below), there is growing evidence that episodes of exercise improve brain functioning within minutes ... and for wide-ranging age groups (see Kekäläinen et al, Legrand et al, Monserrat et al and Polevoy et al below).

Ch.4: Dependency

This above all: to thine own self be true, And it must follow, as the night the day, Thou canst not then be false to any man.  Polonius in Hamlet

- Shakespeare

This chapter aims to cover: What are the main forms of dependency?  Smoking, alcohol, other drugs, junk food, gambling, pornography.  How big a problem is dependency for health & wellbeing?  What are the effective treatments?  Identifying one’s own dependencies & working out a personal response.

Addictions

Energy is the only life, and is from the body; and reason is the bound or outward circumference of energy.  Energy is eternal delight

- William Blake
